Understanding the Purge Feature

Content can be removed from the CDN cache or invalidated by using the Purge feature.

Purge Actions

Qwilt Media Delivery supports two purge actions:

• Purge - Removes specified content from the cache.

• Update - Invalidates specified content on the cache.
  The next time the content object is requested by a client, the CDN revalidates it against the origin. If the object has been modified on the origin, the updated version is retrieved. If the object has not been modified on the origin, the CDN serves the cached object.

Purge Methods

• Purge by URL - Applies the purge action to specified content items, identified by URL. A single purge job may include up to 1000 URLs.
  Example: www.example.com/example.html
  
  

• Purge by Site - Applies the purge action to the entire site.
  Please be aware that purging all of the site's content may significantly increase the load on the origin servers.
  

• Purge by Prefix - Applies the purge action to all the files in a particular path. A single purge job may include up to 1000 paths.
  Examples: /products/sales/images/, /dynamic/news/latest/, /docs/en/v2/
  Purge by prefix is executed on all the site hosts.
